Good news! Technovation Girls fits into your schedule and your team’s meeting needs. You can participate in our program in person, online or using a combination of both approaches. Please follow local or WHO guidelines about in-person meetings as COVID continues to impact countries around the world.
There is no advantage to any specific type of participation style - all of our curriculum and support resources are online.
If you wish to meet in person, you can coordinate with your team members and mentor(s) to find a mutually convenient meeting location, and schedule a day or time to meet each week.
If you need to meet with your team members and/or your mentors online, you may find it helpful to use free online meeting tools such as Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom, and/or Google Hangouts. These tools offer video and audio calling capabilities so that you can see and chat with your teammates and mentors.
Aside from video and audio calling capabilities, Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, and other video call platforms also allow you to share your computer screen, so that your teammates and/or mentor(s) may see what you are working on (like coding applications, developing your business plan, editing your pitch video, and more!)
You may also find it helpful to set up a WhatsApp group with your team to have a place to coordinate meeting times, share ideas, and send project files. To ensure everyone’s safety, be sure to keep your guardian and teacher included in all communications alongside your mentor!
Is Zoom free?
A Zoom Basic Plan, with full features and unlimited meetings, is free. The restriction is that the online meetings will be limited to 40 minutes at a time, but you can schedule two meetings back to back, as needed.
Here are some tips for using Google Hangouts to Share your Screen
Step 1: Click Present Now
Step 2: Select the window that you wish to share.
Note: Google has detailed instructions for how to use their tools online if you need to learn more. For more information on how to present your screen during a video call, click here.

Tips for online collaboration
Teams new to online meetings will need a little time and patience to get used to the new setting. Here are some tips for great collaboration online :)
Some teams share a login for App Inventor or Thunkable to be able to work on the same code. They find that this is successful only when they're in close communication about who will go in, and when! Other teams use project mergers so they're able to work on the code at the same time then merge their work together.
